The number of panels is only part of the design. Their relative heights and widths, the rails between them, and the depth of the profiles all affect how a Colonial door looks. Compare those details with existing doors and nearby woodwork before choosing a pattern.

Coordinate the screen door with the main entry
A Colonial screen door should work with the panel pattern behind it. Compare where its horizontal rails cross the main door and how much of the lower panels remains visible. The layouts in our Traditional Screen & Storm Doors collection offer a useful place to start.
With removable inserts, the same door can serve as a Colonial storm door when screen is exchanged for glass. The wood frame and rail pattern stay in place. Choose screen for ventilation through an open main doorway and glass for added weather protection.
