Solid wood for an outdoor setting
We build our garden and pedestrian gates with mortise-and-tenon joinery and hardwood selected for exterior use. African Mahogany is our standard wood, a beautiful, durable option; Spanish cedar is another available choice. Consider the amount of sun and rain at the opening when discussing the species and finish.
The wood is supplied unfinished. Follow the finishing guidance to seal all surfaces before installation, and plan for maintenance appropriate to the exposure. Paint can connect the gate with a fence or surrounding trim, while stain brings the grain into the design.
