Glass Exterior Doors

Glass Exterior Doors

Light where you want it, structure where you need it.

Glass panels in an exterior door change how an entry feels — brightening a dark foyer, framing a view, or simply making the front of the home feel more open. These doors are built from solid wood with glass options sized and placed to complement the door's proportions and suit the architecture of the home.

Wood front doors with glass for the light you want

Bring daylight into your entry with a solid wood exterior door made for your home. Choose the glass layout and level of privacy you want, then customize the wood, size, and installation options. We build each door to order in our New York workshop.

A glass panel can brighten the space just inside your front door and give you a view of the porch or garden. Start by considering how much of the door you want glazed. A small upper window leaves more room for wood panels below, while a taller glass panel can make a dim entry feel more open.

The arrangement matters as much as the amount of glass. Compare the proportions of each design with nearby windows and the shape of your entry. A broad pane gives a more open view; divided lites break the glass into smaller sections and add detail.

Balance daylight and privacy
Clear glass suits an entry where you want to see outside. Textured or acid-etched glass can soften the view into your home while admitting light. Privacy varies with the pattern, so it helps to consider how close the door is to a sidewalk or neighboring house.

Our wood exterior doors with glass use insulated, tempered glazing as standard. Low-E and decorative options are available, with choices depending on the design. You can also explore our stained glass designs if you want color or a more detailed pattern in the entry.

Many divided-lite designs use separate panes divided by solid wood, known as true divided lites. Simulated divided lites use applied bars to create the pattern over a larger pane. We can help you confirm the construction and glass options for the door you choose.

Built for your exterior opening
We make each door from solid, kiln-dried hardwood with traditional joinery. Our standard African Mahogany combines natural beauty with durability. If you prefer another species, we can help you select one suited to the entry’s exposure. Standard exterior thickness is 1¾ inches, with thicknesses available up to 2¼ inches. Custom sizing lets you work with an existing opening or plan a new entry around the proportions you want.

Choose a slab if you’re retaining a suitable frame, or a pre-hung exterior door with its jamb, hinges, weatherstripping, and threshold. If the opening allows, coordinating sidelights or a transom can bring in more daylight. Our entrance units combine those elements with the door in one frame.

Make the details your own
Your door arrives unfinished so you can paint or stain it to complement your home. Follow the supplied guidance to seal and finish all surfaces before installation, including the top and bottom edges.

Select a design above to customize your wood entry door with glass online. Our craftspeople are available if you’d like help with the glazing, measurements, or fit. Before any door order is built, you’ll receive drawings to review and approve.
