One wood door for screen and storm use
Our solid wood screen and storm doors bring fresh air and seasonal protection to your entry. We handcraft each door to your measurements, with designs to complement your home and a choice of removable inserts or fixed screen or glass.
The difference between a screen door and a storm door is what fills the opening. Screen lets the breeze through when your main door is open; glass adds weather protection. Many of our customers choose both removable screen and glass inserts, then exchange them while the wood door stays in place.
Removable inserts sit in aluminum frames in white or bronze and are held by clips on the inside of the door. They lift out for cleaning or finishing the wood. Fixed screen or glass is also available, without the removable aluminum frame, if you prefer one configuration.
Fiberglass is the standard screen. High-visibility mesh gives a clearer view, No-See-Um mesh has a finer weave for smaller insects, and pet-resistant screening offers added resistance to wear. Aluminum and copper bronze are also available. Storm glass choices include clear tempered and Low-E, with decorative options for selected designs.
Choose a design that works with your entry
Compare the rail layout with your main door and surrounding trim. A Traditional design can leave the entry’s details in view, while a Victorian or Craftsman screen door can repeat patterns on the house. Other collections feature louvers or rustic nature and nautical scenes.
For a curved opening or a pair of entry doors, explore our arched and double screen and storm doors. Those collections make it easier to start with the shape and configuration your opening needs.
These designs can also be made as pantry screen doors for an indoor opening. Screen allows air to circulate through the closed door while leaving the shelves visible.
Solid wood construction in your size
We build our wood screen and storm doors from kiln-dried solid wood with mortise-and-tenon joinery. Standard thicknesses range from 1⅛ to 1¾ inches. Each is made to your specifications, including nonstandard sizes for an existing opening or a new porch.
African Mahogany is our standard wood, chosen for its beauty and durability. Our craftspeople can help you select a species suited to the door’s exposure and planned finish. Doors arrive unfinished, with guidance for sealing and painting or staining all surfaces before installation.
Plan how your door will be installed
Choose a slab for a suitable existing frame or a pre-hung setup: on new brick molding in front of an entry door, in a full jamb for a porch, or together with a new entry door.
