Dutch Interior Doors

Open the top of a Dutch door to see into the next room or speak with someone on the other side while the bottom stays closed. It can be useful between a kitchen and hallway, or at a laundry room where you want an open connection. A Dutch door bolt joins the two sections when you want to use the full doorway.
Think about the height of the dividing rail in relation to nearby counters and the view through the opening. The split is both a working detail and a strong horizontal line, so its position affects how the door looks alongside the rest of the room.

Choose panels or glass for the closed door
Wood panels close off the view when both sections are shut. Glass in the upper section lets light pass through even when you are not using the divided opening. Interior glazed designs use non-insulated tempered glass, with decorative choices available according to the design.

Plan the split and the swing together

We build from kiln-dried solid hardwood in a standard 1½-inch thickness, with a 1¾-inch option. Choose a slab for a suitable existing frame or a pre-hung unit with a new jamb, hinges, and stops. Custom jamb widths and hardware preparation are available.
