Choose a transom for the opening
Exterior transoms form part of the main entry above the door. They use insulated tempered glass and can span a single door, a pair, or an entrance with sidelights. Choose this collection for glazing that separates the indoors from the outdoors.

Screen and storm transoms fill the space above a porch door or screen and storm entry. Screen allows air through, while glass adds weather protection. With removable inserts, the wood frame stays fixed as you exchange screen and glass. That arrangement differs from a hinged interior transom.
Plan the shape above the door
A transom lets you divide a tall opening into a working doorway and a separate section above. Consider the height of that upper section alongside the door below. A shallow band of glass and a taller divided design will give the same entrance different proportions.
Rectangular and curved profiles offer ways to follow an existing opening or introduce an arch. Glass divisions can line up with the door or sidelights, and wider arrangements can use a continuous transom or separate sections. Confirm the shape and layout within the collection for your application.
Coordinate the wood and framing
