Solid Wood Exterior Doors

Solid Wood Exterior Doors

The warmth and weight of real wood

Every door we build starts with solid wood — no veneers, no engineered cores. It's a choice that shows in the weight, the feel, and the way the door performs over decades of daily use. These doors are sized to your opening and built with traditional joinery that keeps them square and stable through years of weather and wear.

Panel layouts for solid wood front doors

Give the wood itself a place in your entry’s design. Our solid wood exterior doors are handcrafted to your dimensions, with panel layouts and profiles you can tailor to the opening, whether you are replacing a front door or planning a new entrance.

The number and proportions of the panels give a wood door much of its character. Tall panels can echo nearby windows, while smaller panels create a more detailed pattern. Raised profiles add depth and shadow around each panel, particularly where light falls across the entry.

Compare the designs with the door casing and other woodwork around the entrance. When replacing an older door, pay attention to where its horizontal rails sit and which details you want to carry forward. We can help adapt the layout to your dimensions, including openings where a narrower width calls for a different panel arrangement.

Privacy through wood panels and light around the door
A solid panel provides privacy by closing off the view through that part of the door. An all-panel design can be useful for an entrance close to a sidewalk, or where nearby windows already supply the daylight you need.

If you would like light around a paneled door, consider coordinating sidelights or a transom as part of an entrance unit. For light through the door itself, explore our glass exterior doors. Those designs also use solid wood construction, with glazing taking a larger role in the layout.

Hardwood construction for an exterior opening
We make the stiles, rails, and panels from solid wood, using kiln-dried hardwood and traditional joinery. The stiles run vertically, and the rails connect them horizontally to form the frame around the panels. Standard exterior doors are 1¾ inches thick, with thicknesses available up to 2¼ inches.

African Mahogany comes standard. A stained finish lets its grain remain visible across the broad wood surfaces, while paint can coordinate the door with the exterior trim. If you prefer another species, our team can help you choose one suited to the amount of weather the entry receives.

Each door arrives smooth and unfinished. We provide guidance for sealing every surface, including the top and bottom edges, before installation. The wood selection, finish, and ongoing care all deserve consideration when planning an exterior door.

Fit the new door to your installation plans
Order a slab when retaining a suitable existing jamb, or choose a pre-hung setup with a matching wood jamb, ball-bearing hinges, weather seals, and an adjustable mahogany threshold. We can prepare the door for your selected hardware or supply it unbored for your installer.
